Puma Energy Foundation: Inter Aide Food Security - PEF
Interaide, Malawi
(Programme concluded - the Foundation no longer supports this programme)
In the southern district of Phalombe, Malawi, communities rely on working the land for their living.
The Puma Energy Foundation is contributing to an initiative by French NGO, Inter Aide, to improve food security and the livelihoods of these communities.
This is a large-scale project, destined to reach 16,000 beneficiaries and is based on a participative approach. Heads of families are trained in how to improve crop production, irrigation, livestock management and marketing.
Many families are being encouraged to move into tree production. At the end of 2013, more than 1,100 family heads had been trained on land productivity improvement, and had received 6.4 tons of seeds.
